80th anniversary

On Monday May 13th, we did a school trip to the Memorial of Caen, the landing beaches and Colleville American cemetery. There were 39 pupils and 4 teachers.

We met at school at 10.30 and took the bus to the Memorial. There, we had one hour guided tour about World War 2. We took a lot of pictures. It was interesting.
Then, we had a picnic near the Memorial.
At 2 o’clock, we took the bus again to go to the Battery of Longues sur Mer. We saw 4 bunkers.
After that, we went to the American cemetery. We had to be quiet because there was a ceremony. It was impressive. We saw the soldiers’graves. More than 9000 soldiers were burried there . We learned that there were also 4 women who were nurses and helped the soldiers. The beach next to the cemetery is Omaha beach, also called Bloody Omaha. There was also a 7 meter bronze statue. The guide explained to us everything we saw.

We came back to school at about 5.45 pm. It was a great day. We saw and heard a lot of English speaking tourists on the touristic sites.
